Waterloo

Today we took a little trip to the battlefield at Waterloo - and yes the Abba song has been stuck in my head all day!

226 steps to the top!
The panorama centre recreating the battle
And an excellent interpretive centre.
Goodbye at sunset.

Cal: the "Butte de Lion" is the lion butt!
Sammy: I was like tired. It was a long way up.
Emmy: when we were looking through the telescopes, it looked cool. We saw warriors.

Royal Museum of Art and History

Today we went to the history museum to see mummies!
First we ran into an organ grinder in our neighbourhood. A very cool experience.
Then as we walked to the museum we saw a parade of motorcycle santas. Sam was thrilled!
Then onto the museum.
The mummy exhibit was wonderful but no pictures allowed. It was classic museum with little interpretation though so it left you wanting to learn more.
Next we explored prehistoric, Roman and early Christian Belgium.
Ancient roman central heating as explained by Cal.
Iron Age graves showing artefacts found with the bodies.
Another fun day out.

MFS family Christmas party

Today Cal and Em went to a party at the MFS house. They had a great time and Santa even showed up!

Pin the nose on Rudolph, crafts and decorating gingerbread houses.

Cal: it was AWESOME! It was Christmassy

Emily: it was crafty. I love crafts!

No such thing as chicken

Buying meat here is a whole new experience. One that requires Google!

Chapon  - castrated rooster
Canette - female duck
Pintade - Guinea hen
Poularde - a domestic chicken at least 120 days old at slaughter fattened on feed that delays egg laying (so a fat pre-pubescent hen)

And that's just basic poultry!

Let the holidays begin

A holiday get together with some neighbours kick off the season 🎄

Brussels Christmas Market (2)

After lunch we went in search of the big tree at Grand Place. We found. Chocolate covered marshmallow waffles.
The country theme for the market was Tunisia so we browsed the stalls of Tunisian wares.
We were getting close. The tree was just around the corner so it was time to get hot chocolate!
Belgian style of course...
And then we went to view the tree.
And do some window shopping to look at all the Christmas displays. Like snowmen made of bread...
Lots of chocolate shops.
And Tin Tin of course
It was a long but fun filled day.

Brussels Christmas Market

Today was the first day of Christmas holidays so we went down to see the Christmas Market here in Brussels. The first thing we saw was...
Next we went off the find the carousels, which were amazing! This was the small one.
Then we stopped for drinks
And on to the big Jules Verne carousel. We spent at lot of time (and money) here!
Next we tried the ferris wheel and got a great view of the city.
A quick candy break before lunch of poutine - what a treat!
And back to the Jules Verne carousel.
